Believe it or not, I would get two at once. Having gotten two at different times, I would much rather them go through the tough puppy stage all at once and get it over with!! I know my first dog was very very lonely without a playmate. But in the future, I will go with a rescue dog hands down. Preferably over a year old. Again, that puppy stage is tough.

Personally, coming from someone who has had 2+ puppies, along with adult dogs. Until you are comfortable with one, i don't recommend two. I also wouldn't recommend purchasing siblings.

It isn't just the messes and training, but the time you get to spend with just one dog. It is taxing on both you and the dog when they feel they have to compete for attention.

My overall suggesting is to research breeds, research breeders and/or rescues and take your time. Find a dog that fits your lifestyle, including things like grooming, activity level and the small behavioral differences between breeds. When you think you know what type of dog you want, meet breeders and rescues and meet several dogs. The right dog for your home will be out there, and it may not be JUST a puppy :)

It's refreshing to see a rescue that focuses on rehabilitation and healing the dog mentally as well as physically vs. stockpiling dogs! What a great rescue!

You know I have spent boat loads of cash on allergy testing for my Goldy,,, to remedy her skin issues. I love your holistic approach to treating the whole puppy...
I have a lot more research to do as there is so many variables...
Anyway - love your site ...will be back

[...] ‘Dog Tired’, ‘Dogging It‘, ‘The Dog Days of Summer’ why do dogs always seem to get the short end of the stick? You never hear anyone saying I am bird tired! Our consultants, Toby and Moe, think we should try to change the image of the dog days of summer. Lets give our canine friends a break and take some extra time with them to cool off and have fun, maybe even cross a few things off your best friends bucket list!
