Special Events: New Year’s Resolutions for your Dog

by   |  Dec 30, 2011  |   no comments

With the New Year almost here, resolutions are on everyone’ mind.  Here at M&J, we thought we would make a few of our own!

  • I will not procrastinate giving my dog a bath.

Toby and Moe’s usual bi-weekly bath has been slowly turning into a monthly bath – it is amazing how much more Moe sheds when he doesn’t get bathed as regularly!  Toby doesn’t shed (he is hypoallergenic) but his fine hair tangles very easily.  Show Dog Shine is Toby’s favorite product, we use it as a rinse out detangler and it makes his post-bath brush out take half the time!

If bathing your pet more regularly is one of your New Year’s Resolutions for your dog, check out our FreshenUp Cleansing Treatment. Just work it through your dog’s dry coat and get them in the tub for a quick rinse off…an easy way to KEEP that resolution :)

  • Make a weekly play date with my dog

Once a week I would like to take my dog to do something new and fun just for him – run on the beach, play in the park, go swimming when it’s warm – something different every week that is out of their typical routine.

  • I will teach my dog to do his ‘tricks’ without having to give him a treat every time.

Somehow Moe knows how to ‘roll over’, ‘dance’, ‘shake’, ‘sit’, ‘lay down’, ‘army crawl’ – he pulls himself over the carpet using only his front two legs – but ask him to simply ‘come’ without a treat in hand?  Forget it!  Sometimes I think he is part cat.  Toby knows and loves his one trick and will do it whenever you ask him, ‘Toby, wag your tail!’.  That’s ok – he’s 12 now, we will let him enjoy his trick!

  • Take 10 minutes out of each day to brush Toby

Sorry Toby, I hope one of your New Years resolutions can be to be more patient while being brushed :-)

Have a great New Year everyone!
